Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
The JDRF funds excellence in research into the causes, prevention, treatment and cure of type 1 diabetes and its serious and debilitating complications.
Volunteers and the work that they do is extremely important to the JDRF. Voluntary positions are available in the roels of office volunteer, fundraisers, committees, and event co-ordinators. Not only will you be helping to find a cure for type 1 diabetes, but you will also gain new skills, gain valuable work experience, and meet new people too.
Leukaemia Busters
Volunteers are needed to help out in the office, with events and fundraising as well as other administrative tasks. This organisation is also looking to take on graduates and work placement students on in the near future so a brilliant chance to get your foot in the door!
Naomi House
Naomi House Childrens' Hospice opened in June 1997 to provide respite care, terminal care and bereavement support for children and families from across the south of England.
Every volunteer involved with Naomi House helps our families in one way or another; whether that's volunteering for a couple of hours or a day a week. The opportunities are varied, from playing with the children to housekeeping, and from garden maintenance to fundraising.
The Ribbons Centre
The Ribbons Centre is located in Southampton and provides a confidential information and support service for people living with and/or affected by HIV/AIDS. It would not be able to function without its volunteers!
Volunteers aid in all duties involved in running the drop-in centre and also help in giving information to people. Full training and ongoing support is given.
The Rose Road Association
Provides quality education, health and social opportunities for children and young adults with profound and multiple learning difficulties and other complex disabilities. There are opportunities to assist in the respite unit for young people, Rosewood School, local community groups, or a local ethnic group.
Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust
More than 900 volunteers currently give their time to helping out with the Southampton University Hospitals Trust, in a vareity of areas.
Popular opportunities include helping out in the League of Friends shop, helping run Radio Lollipop, playing with and doing arts and crafts with children, helping with administrative duties, and much more.
Due to the nature of this opportunity, please only consider giving your time if you are intending on being in Southampton year round.
