Student-led Projects

Current projects

Tanzania Book Project

The TBP is run with READ International, and aims to send 20,000 school textbooks out to Tanzania.  Students organise everything from finding the books, to fundraising for the books to be sent to Tanzania and delivering them!
This project is being run through Solent University this year (2007/08) but University of Southampton students are welcome to volunteer in the project and as project leaders.
Contact southampton@readbookproject.org.uk to find out more and get involved.

Student Robotics

The Student Robotics team are running an exciting competition between sixth form schools in the Southampton area to build fully autonomous robots! Led by technically minded students, the teams in the competition will have to design, build and test their robots ready to compete against other local teams. We are looking for volunteers to liaise with schools, help with technical preparation for the competition and for events and to run the competition day. For more information, see http://www.studentrobotics.org

Aspire

The main objective of Aspire is to promote diversity in the medical profession through supporting young people who are interested in, applying to or studying medicine that are from non-traditional backgrounds. Aspire aims to inspire young people to consider a career in medicine through school activity sessions and informative presentations. This project is organised and run by medical students. Please contact vl105@soton.ac.uk if you are interested in joining in.

Why not set up your own project?

If you have an idea for a new project involving students in the community please come and share it with us. Perhaps you have a special skill that you'd like to share with the local community or you have experience in a scheme that we haven't thought of yet.  We are always keen to help people set up new student-led projects and we will provide you with plenty of support and resources to get you started.  It is a great opportunity for you to learn valuable project management skills and to see your own dreams realised.
