Student Volunteering Week 2010

Student Volunteering Week is an annual event run by Volunteering England, and encourages students of all ages to run projects and events in their local area.  This year the week is running from Monday 22nd - Friday 26th February, and Community Volunteering are planning a whole host of events!

Monday 22nd February - Volunteering drop-in session, Winchester School of Art, Cafe Foyer, 12pm - 2pm.  Drop in if you have any questions, or would like more information about opportunities available in Winchester.

Tuesday 23rd February - Arts project, SUSU Concourse, 12pm - 2pm.  Community Volunteering are creating a canvas to decorate our noticeboard, and we'd like your help!  We'll provide the canvas, design and materials, all you need to do is drop in and get arty!

Wednesday 24th February - Tea Dance, 3pm - 5pm, The Bridge, SUSU.  Community Volunteering are hosting a tea dance for local residents, with music from a student ensemble, dance lessons from student societies, and lots of tea/coffee and cakes!  Volunteer tasks include decorating the Bridge, greeting guests, serving refreshments and dancing with guests.

Thursday 25th February - Arts project, SUSU Concourse, 12pm - 2pm.  Community Volunteering are creating a canvas to decorate our noticeboard, and we'd like your help!  We'll provide the canvas, design and materials, all you need to do is drop in and get arty!

Friday 26th February - Celebration Event, 7:30pm - 10pm, The Bridge, SUSU.  All volunteers who help out during the week are invited to a celebration event on the Friday evening, where they will be rewarded with a buffet dinner and V Thank You certifcates, plus free entry into Kinki.

Saturday 27th February - RAG Raid for Macmillan Cancer Care, Southampton City Centre.  Come along and grab a bucket to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care in Southampton City Centre. To sign up please contact rag@susu.org.

We will also be running a number of short-term community projects (2-4 hours of volunteering) for clubs and societies as well as volunteers to get involved in during the week.  These may include everything from cleaning a church to running a school workshop, and we'll be emailing out information about how to get involved.

If you'd like to volunteer to help at any event during the week, please contact volunteering@southampton.ac.uk and attend the briefing session on Friday 12th February at 1pm in the Committee Room (Level 2 of the Students' Union).
