How to Volunteer

As long as you're a registered student or staff member at the University of Southampton, you can sign up to volunteer at any time throughout the year.  Simply fill in our *online application form* here indicating the areas of volunteering you're interested in, and we'll get back to you with details of induction and training sessions, and how to get started.

If you've got a great idea for a project that isn't listed on this website, then why not become a Group Leader and start it up yourself?  Get in touch for more information on how Community Volunteering can help you plan an opportunity, contact organisations, recruit volunteers and carry out your very own student-led volunteering project.

As well as meeting new people and having fun, the University of Southampton Career Destinations can help you make the most of your volunteering placement by boosting your employability in the eyes of future employers.  Career Destinations can support you to build up the knowledge, attitudes and career management skills to research and produce your own solutions to these important questions.  Whatever your career management needs, remember that you can speak with Careers Advisers and the Help Desk team as well as attend any careers events for up to three years after graduating.  For more information see www.southampton.ac.uk/careers.

About Community Volunteering

Community Volunteering is a joint initiative between Career Destinations in the University of Southampton, and Southampton University Students' Union (SUSU). We recruit, train and place students and staff in volunteer placements, and liaise with organisations to make sure that our students have a wide range of interesting and fulfilling placements to choose from.

We are keen to constantly develop and improve the level of service that we're able to provide, so if you have any suggestions or feedback then please contact us at: volunteering@southampton.ac.uk

Community Volunteering Officer

SUSU has its very own elected Community Volunteering Officer - Cecily Burchill.  It's Cecily's job to promote and publicise the Community Volunteering department, coordinate Group Leaders,  source funding for new events and projects, and work closely with the VP Welfare & Societies to develop long term volunteering strategies.

Cecily will also be running various socials and events for Community Volunteers over the following year, so watch this space!

If you would like to become a group leader and take an active role in the running of a particular project(s), or have an idea for a project or event, you can contact Cecily on cvofficer@susu.org.
